Ghanian winger and former Chelsea player, Christian Atsu sadly died 12 days after being trapped under rubble following the devastating earthquake that hit the city of Hatay. He died at the age of 31. According to the player’s Turkish manager, Murat Uzunmehmet, Atsu was pulled out of the wreckage dead.
“Christian Atsu was found and unfortunately passed away,” he wrote on Twitter. The former Newcastle United and scored the winning goal in his last game for Turkish club Hatayspor as they beat Kasimpasa.
Few hours after the match, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the city of Hatay where the player plies his trade.
Atsu last played for the Black Stars of Ghana in 2019 at the Africa Cup of Nations. He had a temporal break from the team as he revealed he wanted to concentrate on club football.
