Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has been appointed as permanent manager of English Championship club Derby County.
Rooney, is England’s record goalscorer, has been handed a two-and-a-half-year contract.
He had been in interim charge of the team since November when Phillip Cocu was sacked. He combined the role with playing but has now officially retired.
Rooney said: “I knew instinctively Derby County was the place for me.
“To be given the opportunity to follow Brian Clough, Jim Smith, Frank Lampard and Phillip Cocu is such an honour.”
