Legendary Lowa defensive Coordinator Bill Brashier dies

The Iowa Athletics community has been saddened by the news of the passing of former Iowa defensive coordinator Bill Brashier. He had 93 years on earth. Following the announcement of his passing by his family, the late coach is receiving tributes from individuals all around the world.

According to Kirk Ferentz, head football coach of the Iowa Moon Family, Bill Brashier was a fantastic defensive coach.

“It was an honor to work with him as a young assistant coach throughout the 1980s and 1990s when leadership was a crucial component of every triumph and title our program won. Every single day, he drew the greatest performance possible from each of his players. As a leader and as a person, he was adored and admired.

Bill Brashier was born on May 30, 1929, in Eastland, Texas, USA. He was  93 years old at the time of his death. In addition to his wife Ann, Brashier is also survived by his children Lee Ann, Randy, and Scot, as well as his grandchildren Lea, Taylor, Madison, Zachariah, Aiden, and Bailey, and one great-grandchild, Nealon.

His Career

His coaching career as a defensive backs coach began in 1978 at Iowa. He was promoted to the posts of defensive coordinator and assistant head coach prior to his retirement. Ry played for his alma mater, North Texas, for 11 seasons. Fry moved from North Texas to Iowa after the 1978 season to take the position of the head coach there. Brashier accompanied him.

Under Brashier’s leadership, the Hawkeyes competed in 12 bowl games and won three Big Ten titles. Iowa made three trips to the Rose Bowl while being coached by Fry and Brashier. From 1949 through 1951, he was a defensive back, punter, and quarterback for North Texas. Brashier has 19 years of experience.

He was a Bachelor’s and master’s degree holder and he earned his degree from North Texas university.

Personal life

He was a married man and he was married to his wife Ann and he shared two sons Randy and Scot along with a daughter named Lee Ann with her.
