Gordon Sparks, a former host of BBC Radio Devon, has passed away. The presenter was admitted to St Luke’s hospice after his condition worsened earlier in the week. He had previously disclosed his health battle in early May.
Presenter Gordon Sparks of BBC Radio Devon passed away at the age of 61.
At Plymouth’s St Luke’s Hospice, “Sparksy,” as he was known, was receiving cancer treatment. After word of his passing spread, condolences started pouring into BBC Radio Devon early on Sunday morning. Numerous people referred to him as “the voice of Plymouth Argyle” in their tributes posted on social media by hundreds of people.

Sharron Davies, an Olympic swimmer, was one of those who sent her condolences. She called Sparks a “friend” and referred to him as “Plymouth’s sporting voice.” We will all miss our friend and colleague so much – he was definitely unique with a massive heart and sense of humor, wrote fellow station presenter Angela Kalwaites in a tweet.
