The commission revealed during its Tuesday meeting that St. Johns County Commissioner Paul Waldron passed away early on Tuesday morning.

Paul Waldron, a St. Johns County commissioner, passes away at age 53.

He was admitted to the hospital in July 2020 with COVID-19, according to a family member’s social media post. According to a Record article from September 8, he took part in a commission meeting over the phone. In October 2020, he resumed his in-person participation. Paul was a great man who cherished his family, gave back to his neighborhood, and practiced his faith.

The lives of everyone he inspired will carry on his legacy of public service. He will be sorely missed in this community,’ Conrad said. At a meeting on October 12, Kane claimed to have last seen him. He’ll recall Waldron’s “nice smiles. Although he was very vocal in his support of St. Johns County and St. Augustine, he was still open to new hires (for positions).

One of them was Kane, who was hired in July 2021 after serving as Concord, Massachusetts’ director of recreation. Waldron, a lifelong resident of St. Johns County, was a co-owner of the family’s Harry’s Curb Mart company on State Road 16, which was established by his father, who passed away in March of last year.
