Susan Tolsky is a comic character actress best known for her roles as the bashful secretary Bernadette Van Gilder on Madame’s Place and the charming Biddie Cloom on Here Come the Brides, has passed away. She was 79.
According to her sister Noel Foreman and The Hollywood Reporter, Tolsky passed away on October 9 at her Toluca Lake home in Los Angeles from natural causes. On October 31, a funeral ceremony was performed at North Hollywood’s Angeleno Valley Mortuary.

Susan Tolsky attended Bellaire High School, where she got interested in performing and stand-up comedy. After that, she enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin to study nursing.
Instead of offering Tolsky a contract with Screen Gems when she first came to Hollywood, Foy connected her to others who worked in casting and assisted her in finding an agent. She was able to study fresh scripts since Foy permitted her to join the New Talent Program even though she wasn’t under contract.
With one line in an episode of The Second Hundred Years and a brief part in a Bewitched episode, both on ABC, Tolsky made her acting debut on television in 1968. She searched for further employment during this period with the help of the Los Angeles Repertory Company and the Columbia Pictures Workshop. As Miss Craymire, Rock Hudson’s character’s secretary in Roger Vadim’s comedy-mystery Pretty Maids All in a Row (1971), Tolsky made her acting debut.
The movie was said to be a “sex satire-murder mystery” and earned mainly unfavorable press reviews. Tolsky said to Vadim, “Now I know why I’m the only lady in the movie who didn’t be asked to take off her clothes,” after seeing the finished film during a preview.

She made her voice acting debut as Annabell on the NBC animated children’s television series Foofur (1986–88). She has recurrent appearances as Aunt Ruth on Bobby’s World (1990–98), Binkie Muddlefoot on Darkwing Duck (1991–92), Scara on Aladdin (1994), and Aunt Janie, the aunt of the show’s eponymous heroine on Pepper Ann (1994).
